Get on the road again
Moving overseas has long been a costly enterprise but it doesn't need to be! Our self-load shipping containers allow you to reduce the costly overheads and structure your move to suit you. Ship your car to NZ so you're ready to hit the road when you arrive. You can move your car with your household possessions in a shipping container or elect to transport it with a roll-on, roll-off option. The choice is yours!
SHIPPING CONTAINER VEHICLE TRANSPORT
Many people choose to move their car, motorbike or other personal vehicles in a 20ft or 40ft shipping container. Properly secured, this makes for a safe and convenient mode of transport for your vehicle with the added benefit of being able to pack your household goods as well in the same container. See some of the frequently asked questions below or contact one of the team at ShipinBoxes today for a quick quote!
ROLL ON/ROLL OFF VEHICLE TRANSPORT
Only need to send the car? Trusted by car manufacturers worldwide to ship their brand new vehicles, Roll on/Roll off (or RORO for short) is like a large underground carpark keeping your precious vehicle out of the elements as it makes its journey across the Tasman. It is generally considered the cheapest method for transporting your car and you can also use this method to send other wheeled vehicles that may not fit into a 20ft or 40ft containers such as 4WDs, boats on trailers & campervans.
CAN I DRIVE THE CAR ONTO THE SHIP?
When transporting a car via a Roll-on/Roll-off (RORO) service, it needs to be delivered via an authorised tow truck. The team at ShipinBoxes will include this cost in your quote when you request it. If you are based more than 30km away from the port, it can sometimes be more economical to drive your car closer to the port to have it collected. Ask one of the friendly team at ShipinBoxes for more information!
CAN I LEAVE PERSONAL ITEMS IN THE CAR?
When shipping via a Roll-on/Roll-off (RORO) service we would always recommend that you completely clear your vehicle of all personal goods and ensure that it has been thoroughly (we recommend professionally) cleaned prior to shipment. If you are wanting to ship personal goods as well, we'd recommend using a Shipping Container option instead.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I CONSIDER?
There are a lot of things to consider when transporting your vehicle to New Zealand such as cost, personal attachment, compliance, applicable taxes etc.
Please note that most cars are subject to taxes on import to New Zealand however exceptions for returning residents & new Immigrants can apply.
You also need to make sure that your vehicle is thoroughly cleaned both inside and out before export (we recommend professional cleaning). Cars will always be inspected by quarantine services and even if you have cleaned it yourself we would still recommend allowing $100-$200NZD to cover cleaning/vacuuming fees as New Zealand Quarantine is especially strict on items coming in.
